Producer, Production Manager, Content Consultant, Copywriter, and Broadcast Operations Specialist
Once upon a time, there was a business with a brilliant idea / product / service. But no one understood it, thought they needed it, or knew it existed. Don’t let this be the end of your story.
Investing in an ongoing and authentic conversation with your audience turns your business into a page-turner.
Marketing agencies, content creators, copywriters and videographers can produce content for you. But it can get expensive, be another thing to manage, or they might not look holistically at the messaging across your business.
You can use Chat GPT to help you generate content but it can’t put your unique personality into your brand, or work out an integrated content strategy for your business.
To convince customers to go with you instead of your competitors, your communications need to be distinctive and complimentary across platforms and channels.
Lens & Pen Projects will help you….
Be in charge of your own comms instead of relying on a marketing agency or contractor
Create a tone of voice that matches your brand personality
Convey your point of difference in contrast to competitors
Better understand what your audience wants to hear, not just what you want to share
Streamline your content production process
Back you up with content generation if you don’t have the time
Apply 25 years of media experience to mitigate the risks that creative is known for: being off-brief, over-budget and underwhelming

After completing a degree in Film and Television Production at QUT in 1996, I planned to work in theatre and film. As it turned out, the jobs were in TV and my first gig was filming medical procedures, beamed out via satellite broadcast to doctors across rural Australia. It was more grit than glamour, and I once passed out during an operation while holding a boom mic.
I went on to work in a variety of studio, OB, live and ENG settings for lifestyle programmes, game shows, and reality TV series like Big Brother, Australian Idol, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Fear Factor and X Factor. It was a dark time.

So I went to work at Sydney Opera House, where I got to pursue my love of the arts while negotiating and managing partnerships with sponsors like HP, NAB, Lexus, and LG. Craving something less corporate, I moved to the Spinifex Group, a communications agency where I produced documentary, TVC, and international event and awards content for Ernst & Young, Sydney Airport, FIFA, FINA and Rugby World Cup, amongst others, with lots of fancy 2D and 3D motion graphics elements.
Following a move to Singapore, I was invited by Olympic Broadcasting Services (broadcast arm of IOC) to plan broadcast operations at competition venues for Singapore Youth Olympic Games, London Olympic Games, Sochi Winter Olympics and PyeongChang Winter Olympics (due to Zika and Covid, Rio and Tokyo were not to be). The job involved the technical aspects of broadcasting events from a venue around a field of play: camera positions, lighting, cabling, and the diplomacy to deal with the conflicting needs of stakeholders (media rights holders, orgnising committees, sporting federations).

Eventually, when the long hours and location shoots of TV-land became diametrically opposed to parenting, I took up a post as Editor of a digital lifestyle publication, then returned to the flexibility of freelancing. Self-employed, I was able to write for online publications, brands and corporate clients in and around broadcast jobs, which led to the formation of Lens & Pen Projects.
Additionally, I co-founded Singapore’s premier non-alcoholic beverage supplier, Wisecrack Drinks.
In my spare time (ha ha), I founded and was the President of ANZA Singapore Nippers, where I established a Committee and managed over 50 volunteers to deliver an annual 24 week programme teaching vital surf life saving skills to 130 children each year.

After 14 years away I moved home (Noosa), where I continue to work with long-term clients in the arts, education, agriculture and banking sectors. Other than that, I enjoy the extreme sports of walking while podcast-listening, subjecting friends to my playlist, and raising 3 kids without a manual. One day I hope to flagrantly leave the to-do list undone, embrace the imperfect moment and just sit down and write the bloody novel.
